Sound Healing: How Frequencies Transform Mind, Body and Space

Sound is not just something we hear. It is something we feel — in our bones, in our nervous system, in the subtle energetic field that surrounds and permeates every living being. This understanding is at the heart of everything I do as a sound healing practitioner and the foundation of ATMA's approach to conscious performance.

What Is Sound Healing?

Sound healing is the intentional use of frequency, vibration, and resonance to support physical, emotional, and energetic wellbeing. It is one of the oldest healing modalities known to humanity — from the chanting of Tibetan monks to the didgeridoo ceremonies of Aboriginal Australians — and it is experiencing a profound renaissance as modern science begins to validate what ancient traditions have always known.

At its core, sound healing works through a principle called entrainment: the tendency of biological systems to synchronise with external rhythmic stimuli. When you are exposed to a consistent frequency — whether from a singing bowl, a tuning fork, or a carefully crafted ambient soundscape — your brainwaves, heart rate, and nervous system naturally begin to align with that frequency.

The Frequencies Used in Sound Healing

Different frequencies are used in sound healing practice. Here are the ones I work with most:

432 Hz — The Natural Tuning Many traditional instruments and healing practices use 432 Hz as their reference pitch, as opposed to the modern standard of 440 Hz. Many practitioners and listeners report that music tuned to 432 Hz feels warmer and more grounded — though individual experience varies.

528 Hz — The Love Frequency Known in Solfeggio tradition as the frequency of transformation, 528 Hz is associated in many healing practices with feelings of peace and deep relaxation. I incorporate this frequency into many of my sound healing sessions and ambient compositions. The scientific evidence for specific health claims remains limited; what is consistent is the subjective experience of calm that many people report.

40 Hz — Gamma Entrainment Emerging research has explored how 40 Hz gamma frequency stimulation may support focus and cognitive clarity. In my sessions, I use subtle rhythmic pulses at this frequency beneath the main soundscape as a supportive element.

Binaural Beats When two slightly different frequencies are played in each ear, the brain perceives a third frequency — the difference between them. This binaural beat may support the listener in entering specific states of relaxation or focus. Results vary between individuals.

Plant Music: The Voice of the Living World

One of the most extraordinary dimensions of my practice is plant music — the translation of a plant's bioelectrical signals into audible sound. Using specialised sensors that measure the electrical resistance between a plant's leaves and roots, we can convert these micro-variations into MIDI data and, from there, into music.

The result is haunting, beautiful, and deeply moving. Plants respond to their environment — to light, water, touch, and the presence of other beings — and their music reflects this sensitivity. In ceremony, I play alongside the plants, improvising in response to their signals and creating a genuine dialogue between human and botanical consciousness.

Reiki and Sound: An Integrated Practice

My sound healing work is deeply informed by my Reiki practice. Reiki is a Japanese energy healing modality that works with the body's subtle energy field — the same field that acupuncture, qigong, and Ayurveda have mapped for thousands of years.

When I combine Reiki with sound, the effect is amplified. The sound creates a vibrational container — a safe, resonant space — within which the Reiki energy can move more freely and deeply. Many participants report experiences of deep relaxation and a sense of clarity that they describe as unlike anything they have encountered in conventional wellness practices. Individual experiences vary.

ATMA Sound Healing Experiences

I offer sound healing in a variety of formats, from intimate one-to-one sessions to large-scale immersive ceremonies for retreats, festivals, and corporate wellness programmes. Each experience is unique, crafted in response to the specific needs of the space, the participants, and the moment.

If you are a retreat organiser, hotel, wellness brand, or event producer looking to offer your guests a truly transformative sonic experience, I would love to connect.
