ATMA Academy: Six Courses That Will Transform Your Creative Practice
From Ableton fundamentals to advanced mixing and mastering, ATMA Academy offers six courses designed to take your music production to a professional level. Here is what you will learn.
ATMA Academy: Six Courses That Will Transform Your Creative Practice
When I started teaching music production, I quickly realised that most courses teach the wrong things in the wrong order. They focus on software features before creative fundamentals. They teach techniques before developing taste. They produce technically competent producers who don't know what to say with their music.
ATMA Academy was built to be different. Our six courses are designed around a single principle: technical skill in service of artistic vision. Here is what each one covers.
Course 1: Ableton Live Fundamentals
For: Complete beginners and those who have been using Ableton for a while but feel like they're only scratching the surface.
This course covers everything you need to know to use Ableton Live confidently and creatively. We start with the fundamentals — the Session View and Arrangement View, audio and MIDI routing, the browser and library — and build systematically toward a complete understanding of the software.
But more importantly, we develop the workflow habits that separate productive producers from those who spend hours tweaking and never finish tracks. By the end of this course, you will have completed three original tracks and have a clear, efficient production workflow.
Duration: 8 weeks | Format: Online and in-person (Barcelona)
Course 2: Electronic Music Production
For: Producers who know the basics and want to develop their sound and style.
This is the course where we get into the heart of what makes electronic music work: sound design, arrangement, groove, and the development of a distinctive sonic signature. We cover synthesis from first principles — subtractive, FM, wavetable, and granular — and develop a deep understanding of how to design sounds that serve the emotional intention of a track.
We also cover arrangement in depth: how to build tension and release, how to structure a track for maximum impact, and how to create the kind of dynamic journey that keeps listeners engaged from beginning to end.
Duration: 10 weeks | Format: Online and in-person (Barcelona)
Course 3: Mixing Fundamentals
For: Producers who want their tracks to sound professional.
Mixing is the art of making all the elements of a track work together — creating clarity, depth, and impact in the stereo field. This course covers EQ, compression, reverb, delay, and spatial processing from first principles, with a focus on developing the ear as much as the technical knowledge.
We work extensively with reference tracks — analysing professional mixes and understanding the decisions that make them work — and apply these insights to your own productions.
Duration: 6 weeks | Format: Online and in-person (Barcelona)
Course 4: Advanced Sound Design
For: Producers who want to develop a truly distinctive sonic identity.
This course goes deep into the art and science of sound design — exploring advanced synthesis techniques, creative sampling, field recording, and the use of processing to transform ordinary sounds into extraordinary ones. We also cover the ATMA approach to textural layering: how to create the kind of sonic depth that makes a production feel three-dimensional and alive.
Duration: 8 weeks | Format: Online and in-person (Barcelona)
Course 5: Mastering for Digital Distribution
For: Producers who want to prepare their music for professional release.
Mastering is the final step in the production process — the art of preparing a mix for distribution across all playback systems. This course covers loudness standards, stereo enhancement, dynamic processing, and the specific requirements of different distribution platforms.
We also cover the business side of mastering: how to communicate with mastering engineers, how to evaluate a master, and when to master yourself versus hiring a professional.
Duration: 4 weeks | Format: Online and in-person (Barcelona)
Course 6: Live Performance and DJ Techniques
For: Producers who want to take their music to the stage.
This course bridges the gap between studio production and live performance — covering Ableton Live's performance features, DJ technique, hardware integration, and the art of reading and responding to a live audience. We also cover the specific demands of conscious performance: how to use music intentionally to guide collective experience.
Duration: 8 weeks | Format: In-person (Barcelona)
One-to-One Mentorship
In addition to our group courses, we offer one-to-one mentorship with Florian Gasperini for producers who want personalised guidance on their specific creative and technical challenges. Mentorship sessions are available online and in-person.
